Dr. Patricia Bath also founded the non-profit American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness in Washington, D.C.

Blindness studies and community ophthalmology

Based on her observations at Harlem Hospital, Dr. Bath published the first scientific paper showing the higher prevalence of blindness among Blacks.[23][24] 

Dr. Bath also found that African American people had eight times higher prevalence of glaucoma as a cause of blindness.[25]
