Wells' life is the subject of Constant Star (2002), a musical drama by Tazewell Thompson that has been widely performed.[106]

The play explores Wells as "a seminal figure in Post-Reconstruction America."[106]

Wells was played by Adilah Barnes in the 2004 film Iron Jawed Angels

The film dramatizes a moment during the Woman Suffrage Parade of 1913 when Wells ignored instructions to march with the segregated parade units and crossed the lines to march with the other members of her Illinois chapter.
