It was originally developed in 1987 by Dr. Larry Hornbeck of Texas Instruments.
DLP is known as Digital Light Processing, a new
technology developed by Texas Instruments used for projecting images
from a monitor, such as a Projector onto a large screen for presentations.
Before, this
development of DLP, most computer projection systems were based on LCD
technology which tends to produce faded and blurry images.
