Jesus called attention to the importance of every person to GOD with three descriptions about something lost. Those lost things were---- a sheep,----a coin---- and a son.
Luke 15:4-8
King James Version (KJV)
4 What
man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not
leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is
lost, until he find it? If a shepherd would stop what he was doing to go and find a single lost sheep out of a group of 100, won't GOD search after a lost man or woman with even more commitment?
Luke 15:8-10
Jesus tells a short adventure about a woman who has lost a coin. She cleans and searches her entire house looking for the lost coin and eventually finds it. Then she invites everyone around her and they all show happiness and jubilation. Jesus says that this is much like the celebration that happens in heaven when one person turns to God.
Luke 15:11-20
The report of the lost son---or prodigal son--- tells about a son who fled from the good things in life into a life of sin. When the lost son came to his senses, he realized he had it good all along in his father's house. It is at this time, that he returns to his father as a broken and lost son. His father welcomes him home with open arms and a overjoyed heart.
In each description, a person has lost something of Great Value. When it is found, friends and neighbors are invited to celebrate and rejoice together.
The message is very clear.
We are all of Great Value to GOD!
GOD offers us forgiveness and New life through Jesus Christ. GOD faithfully searches after us with His Love and Grace.
There is great joy in heaven over just one sinner who repents.
Luke 15:7
